In the Classroom:

  • What Color is a Kiss? talks a lot about colors and emotions. While reading have the students act out the emotions that correspond with Moncia’s color choices.
  • Have students try to decide what color a kiss is. List things they like and don’t like about their colors.
  • At the end Monica discovers that a kiss can be all sorts of colors. Have the students color their own hearts like the ones Monica has at the end.

  • Each day features a momentous event in Black History, after reading that day’s page students can take a few minutes to do an in class essay on “What would I have done in that circumstance?” or “What can I learn from this event?”
