And Then It’s Spring

By Julie Fogliano / Illustrated by Erin E. Stead

and then its spring

Following a snow-filled winter, a young boy and his dog decide that they’ve had enough of all that brown and resolve to plant a garden. They dig, they plant, they play, they wait . . . and wait . . . until at last, the brown becomes a more hopeful shade of brown, a sign that spring may finally be on its way.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

By Bryan Mealer and William Kamkwamba

boy who harnessed the windWilliam Kamkwamba was born in Malawi, a country where magic ruled and modern science was mystery. It was also a land withered by drought and hunger. But William had read about windmills, and he dreamed of building one that would bring to his small village a set of luxuries that only 2 percent of Malawians could enjoy: electricity and running water. His neighbors called him misala–crazy–but William refused to let go of his dreams. With a small pile of once-forgotten science textbooks; some scrap metal, tractor parts, and bicycle halves; and an armory of curiosity and determination, he embarked on a daring plan to forge an unlikely contraption and small miracle that would change the lives around him.

  1. How much is it monthly to purchase the books that are
selected for review? A chapter book and a picture book
are the selected books for review. Does this include
any selected reading out loud at your store, or any
    outline for further illustration?

    • Our Books of the Month are 10% off all month long. We do read the picture book during our stores’ story times for one week of the month. Our other story time books, though, are regular price. We do a monthly blog post, aside from the newsletter, that gives more information on the Books of the Week along with ideas on how to use these books either in a classroom setting or at home. The Book of the Month blog post usually goes out during the first week of the month.

  2. what time does the Lego Club event start on Saturdays?

    • Lego Clubs start at 2pm.
