Our Cordova Store Manager, Andrea, has picked this month’s toy review. She highly enjoyed playing with Lego’s Scooby-Doo Mystery Mansion Set (LG75904).

This groovy set includes some of the iconic Scooby-Doo characters. Most of the gang has been transformed into Lego Minifigures. you have Scooby (Of course!), Shaggy, Velma and Daphne. Also included are several classic villains from the TV Series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, Vampire (Bob Oakley), Phantom (Bluestone the Great), and Black Knight (Mr. Wickles). There are some really cool, interactive parts of the mystery mansion itself. There is a clock tower with a spinning wall function, the conservatory with broken windows, man-eating plant with snapping mouth, a spinning morning star pendulum, a motorbike with a sidecar, a safe with gold bars and a hidden compartment for a golden key.

The minifigures of the gang are spot on with their cartoon appearance. Velma is exclusive to this set. She’s wearing her orange sweater and she has the glasses that she is notorious for losing, as well as a map of the mansion and a magnifying glass. Shaggy has his unkempt hair, and he also carries a sausage with him. Daphne is dressed head to toe in purple, just like the cartoon. Her hairpiece is pretty big, which I believe is in keeping with the cartoon as well. I was very pleased to see the gang represented so well by their Lego counterparts.

In most Scooby-Doo episodes, you see creepy/haunted buildings. I like that this set wasn’t based on one particular building form the series. It provides the opportunity for additional imagination to come into play. As far as I know, none of the included villains appeared in episodes at the same time, which just gives you more ways to play! The mansion is done very well to give a spooky experience similar to the theme of the series.

The construction of this set was fairly simple because of the easy to follow instructions included in the box. Each bag of building bricks was labeled in an easy to read manner, which made following the instructions that much easier.

Overall, I would most definitely recommend this set to kids that love Scooby-Doo, nostalgia seeking (adult) fans of the cartoon (like me!), or anyone that is looking for a Halloween themed set. This would make a great display for Halloween, given the spooky mansion, monsters and the jack-o-lantern pieces included.
